Frequently Asked Questions

What are square repeat, half-drop repeat, and brick repeat?

Square repeat tiles the design in a straight grid. Half-drop repeat offsets alternating columns down by half the tile height. Brick repeat offsets alternating rows sideways by half the tile width, like stacked bricks.

Does repeating reduce image quality?

No, original pixels are copied as-is with no quality loss. The overall image dimensions simply grow with more repeats.

Does this automatically hide seams?

No, it simply tiles your original design as-is β€” it doesn't auto-heal seams. For seams to look natural, the original design itself needs to be drawn so its edges already match.

How many times can I repeat it?

Up to 10 times each horizontally and vertically. Beyond that, the result image would become too large and could strain the browser.

Why PNG only, not JPG?

JPG compression can introduce faint color bleeding at edges, which can make tile seams look messy. A transparent-background PNG avoids this issue.

Why would I need a background color?

Tiling a transparent PNG as-is produces a transparent result. Filling a background color lets you preview how it looks against a specific color, or download a finished image with that background baked in. Choosing 'Keep Transparent' downloads it as-is, with no background.

Why does mirror mode require an even number of repeats?

Mirror mode flips every other column (or row), alternating 'normal-flipped-normal-flipped...'. For this pattern to stay consistent when the textile is tiled again (e.g., continuously as a roll), the total count must be even β€” an odd count would break the pattern right at the seam where 'flipped-flipped' or 'normal-normal' would end up next to each other.
